Importance of forest
Forest soils are giant sponges. They soak up rain, so that it seeps slowly into the ground.
Trees increase the supply of oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, helping keep the atmosphere in balance, so that life in earth can continue.
Forest provide food and shelter for a large and varied population of birds and animals.
Managing forest
About a quarter of the world’s forests have been cleared, either to build houses, farms, and roads, or to harvest the wood commercially.
Diseases, insects, and fires take an annual toll of trees almost equal to the volume cut of the people.
Since people depend to the great extent on forests, it is important to make every effort to protect them.
Even though forest is very important to us there are always a danger entering it, specially those animals who lives there. But even it is very dangerous some people choose to live in the forest. Here in Bulan we encounter two people who choose to live in the forest, the first one is in Matarais and the second is in Padre Diaz.
Matarais forest
We go first at matarais forest, where in we meet Kuya Dany who his living in the forest since he was born. He has 6 children but he is widow for 1 year already. He choose to live in the forest because all the needs specially when it becomes to the food is already there.
But before we reach the house of Kuya Dany we climb and walk around the Matarais. Its so difficult to walk because its high and the road is slanting and has a lot of mud so we need to be careful so that we wont get slide.
After that very long and super tired walk at last we reach the house of Kuya Dany where in he welcome us and let us eat in their home sweety home. We eat their our lunch and he also give us coconut to drink and to eat. It taste good and yummy after we eat coconut they offer us star apple. How nice right? It is one of the good thing if you encounter people like them who live in a forest because all the fruits or vegetables is free and very safe to eat because its fresh and the soil is very healthy.
Padre Diaz forest
After Matarais forest we went also in Padre Diaz forest. There, we meet Lolo Bading who also live in the forest. He is 80 year old guy. But lolo bading has a problem in hearing so for him to hear us we need to shout.
Since its raining the road going to the house of lolo bading is very dangerous to pass through. So we need to be careful in walking. When we reach the house of lolo bading, his 6 dogs welcome us in the way of barking so we cant go near to his house so we have to shout for him to hear us and thanks God he hear us.
When lolo bading hear us, he imediately stop his dog inbarking and he welcome us. When were talking to lolo bading we learn so much thing about him, one of it is the story why it is hard for him to hear already this what lolo bading say “may ataman pano ako na duwa na balete dun sa may baba, hampangan yun. San nag kakawit ako sadto indukduk nalang ang talinga ko pagkatapos sadto tuda nalang tunug san talinga ko hanggang di na ako nakabati san mayad”. It is also scary in their but lolo bading is so brave to sleep and live there in the forest.
After the interview to lolo bading we go home already because it’ll be dangerous for us to walk or go down if it is late hour already. While we are walking rodney and daniel is cracking the pili that lolo bading give to us.
It was very good experience we encounter to our life even we got lost in matarais. We encounter two different people that choose to live in the forest than to go down and live with other people. In our interview you will know more about them so just watch it.
